Yes I just started training and a newbie somehow I fell into the Multisport trance via another Multisport or should I say Mixed Martial Art. In an effort to improve my cardio I decided I needed to run more, once I started running I thought I should throw in a few days of biking, hey I just moved to Oahu, HI no better way to see the island then the method of self propulsion. Then there is the water that surrounds 100% of the island, my wife and I are at the beach enjoying it so why not swim in it.

In the quest to increase my cardio for my MMA training has now lead me to the pursuit to become a Triathlete. After reading Ben Greenfield’s September 2009 article “What Really Motivates You?” in Triathletemag.com. I thought what is it that has pulled me into this sport and why? My answer:

Of course I want to say “yes I finished a Triathlon” although deep down inside I am thinking “I am a Triathlete” sounds so superior, so renaissance. Those who are humble and say “I like the sport, I like to compete, it keeps me healthy” are either part-timers who will fall off, or just not being straight up. You don’t do Triathlon’s to stay healthy, running alone will do that. This is sport for headstrong competitors. Who doesn’t want to say “Fuck ya I finished a Triathlon this weekend, what the fuck did you do?” I am brash in your face, maybe not what the sport needs, although I need the sport! I am Jack’s fierce sense of competition.
